At their Annual Autumn Gala, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce honored: Elizabeth La Montanaro with a Lifetime Achievement Award, Shoprite as Business of the Year and the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Goshen as Service Organization of the Year.
The Annual Dinner Dance took place on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Catlin Gardens, located at 2865 Route 6 Slate Hill, NY. The event fulfilled its promise to be a memorable affair. Dinner choices of Herb Roasted Pork Loin, Broiled Tilapia with Pineapple Salsa or Boneless Breast of Chicken Marsala were served. A festive cocktail and hors d'oeuvres hour began at 6:30 pm and was followed by dinner, the awards presentation, and dancing.
Speeches from friends and family of Elizabeth, as well as an acceptance speech from the honoree herself were heard. This was followed by a speech from Carol Cullen, President of BPW of Goshen, on behalf of the membership thanking the Chamber and its members for the great honor of being chosen asService Organization of the Year. In addition to the Goshen Chamber of Commerce recognition, the club was awarded a Certificate of Merit from New York State Assembly women Annie Rabbit; a Certificate of Achievement from Kyle Roddey Mayor of the Village of Goshen; A Distinguished Service Award from the County of Orange signed by Katie Bonelli, Fifth Legislative District and Michael R. Pillmeier. Chairman of the Legislature of Orange County. Edward A. Diana, Orange County Executive honored the club with a Certificate of Recognition and Nan Hayworth, member of Congress, recognized the club with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.
Catlin Gardens is a very elegant, beautiful venue and honorees and guests had a very exciting evening. Many BPW members were in attendance to accept this honor and enjoy the evenings celebration. Congratulations to the honorees and especially to the ladies of BPW who have served the greater Goshen community since 1958 with their countless good works.
1958 - 2013 Over these 55 years, 61 students have increased their knowledge as a result of BPW's scholarships- totaling $68,881. To date our contributions to Arden Hill Hospital combined with our donations to Orange Regional Medical Center totals $87,847. In addition various other community projects over the years have benefited: Orange County C.P. (known as Inspire today), Goshen Historic Track, Hospice of Orange County, Goshen Area Day Care Center, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Goshen Chamber of Commerce, Orange County March of Dimes, Orange County TB and Lung Assoc,. Student members of HELP, Orange County Welfare Committee and Goshen Central School District for 2 Glucose monitoring devices. More recent community projects include GOVAC, Goshen Humane Society, adopting a Goshen family at Christmas, school supplies for students, Valley View bingo prizes, books for pediatric patients at ORMC, Playing cards and DVDs for Vets, as well as local food pantry collections and contributions to Youth Ending Hunger Club at Goshen Central School.
